On Saturday Feb. 14, four of Coginchaug’s best athletes had the chance to compete in the Millrose Games in New York City. The Millrose Games is one of the most distinguished indoor track meets in the world.

Senior Bailey Thayer, juniors Samantha Drop and Jessica Drop and sophomore Allison Alsup competed in the high school 4×800 invitational, coming in fourth place with a time of 9:19.61.

Their families, Mr. McShane and Mrs. Germond all went to support. The girls broke the school record and put themselves in 9th place in the nation.

“Millrose is one of the most prestigious indoor track meets in the world, so being invited there was amazing,” said Alsup. “We didn’t even expect to do well, so coming in fourth was a bit of a surprise. It was also pretty cool competing at the same meet as many big time pros such as Mary Cain, Jordan Hasay, and Cam Levins.”

The 4×800 team will compete in Nationals in March.
