Super Bowl XLIX

Super+Bowl+XLIX

Before the Super Bowl between the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks could be played, there were two weeks of talking about the game and everyone’s opinion on the game and who would win. There was also a lot of talk about whether Tom Brady could get his fourth Super Bowl or could the Seahawks be the first team to win back-to-back Super bowl since the Patriots did it in 2003, 2004.
There were plenty of interesting things that went on,the week before the Super bowl the most talked about was did the Patriots Deflate footballs during the AFC Championship. For the first week of coverage in Arizona where the Super Bowl was being played, all the talk was about weather or not the patriots let 2 lb of air out of the footballs. After the bye week finally the media started talking X’s and O’s about the Super Bowl. The next major story at the Super Bowl was Marshawn Lynch refusing to answer any questions at media day. For every question that Marshawn Lynch received he answered, “I’m just here so I don’t get fined”.
on February 1 at 6:30 pm the ball was kicked off and Super Bowl forty nine was under way. From the start off the game was evident that the it would be back and forth the whole game. The big story in this game though was not about the star players such as Patriots Julian Edelman and Seahawks Marshawn Lynch. They did play a huge role in the game games but it was they guys you wouldn’t expect made huge plays that decided the Super Bowl.
The first unlikely star was Jeremy Lane intercepting Tom Brady after a long drive for his first career interception and it came in the Super bowl.
Next the unlikely star of them all was Chris Matthews. He was an undrafted Rookie who started the season was working at foot locker. He had to leave work early to fly to Seattle and try out for the team. He made the team but didn’t have a catch all season because the Patriots’ shut down Star wide receivers, Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse, he had 4 catches for over 100 yards. It was his performance that helped the Seahawks stay in the game and have a chance to win.
Lastly the player, who also came out of nowhere to make one of the greatest plays in Super Bowl history, was Malcolm butler. With 20 seconds left, on the one yard line, all Seattle needed was to move the ball one yard to win the Super Bowl. Most people would have thought they would give the ball to Marshawn Lynch, one of the best Half Backs in the NFL, but instead they decide to throw. Malcolm Butler intercepted the ball on the one and that sealed the Super bowl victory for the patriots. Malcolm Butler was also an undrafted free agent and was a long shot to make the team in the start of the season. Malcolm Butler before the season was cashier at Popeye’s and he also got a call to try out for the patriots. His was the first person at his DII school of Western Alabama to win a super bowl. In Butlers post game interview he said “i just knew i was going to make a play”.
After all the distractions and being called cheaters since 2007 because of spygate and deflate gate the patriots finally put there doubters and the haters to rest as they finally win the fourth Super Bowl in 14 years.
