Every year, the EDGE Club (Excellent Decisions Guiding Everyday) hosts a Be the One Spirit Week to celebrate the RSD 13 Core Ethical Values and to raise awareness of the importance of making healthy choices.
On Monday, EDGE members put yellow ribbons on student lockers to help students acknowledge the start of Be the One Week. The yellow ribbons are a local twist from MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and represent the school standing together to “Be the One” to make healthy decisions.
EDGE, along with Durham-Middlefield Youth & Family Services (DMYFS), raises awareness among students at Strong, warning adolescents of the dangers of alcohol use, abusive relationships, cyber predators, and sexting. For the high school, EDGE emphasizes the dangers of drug use and drinking, especially around prom, asking students to make smart decisions and commit to drug- and alcohol-free experiences.
Each day of this week, a specific color is to be worn to represent each Core Ethical Value.
Monday, Nov. 16: Red for Respect
Tuesday, Nov. 17: Green for Responsibility
Wednesday, Nov. 18: Orange for Honesty
Thursday, Nov. 19: Blue for Kindness
Friday, Nov. 20: Purple for Courage
The homeroom with the most students participating this week will receive doughnuts.
