Coginchaug’s cheerleading squad is getting ready for their winter season, filled with 20 basketball games to cheer at and multiple competitions for them to see how their skills have grown since last season. One of their goals this year is to place high in competitions. They are hoping that their new advanced routine will help them succeed with their goal. Senior captain Jackie Stevens said, “The hardest thing we will deal with this season will be learning difficult routines and stunts.” The team consists of 19 girls who are excited for their competitions. Senior captain Ava Altschuler says that this season she is most looking forward to “taking the mat at competition with a ready and excited team.” She believes the team’s biggest accomplishment is having “the whole pyramid put together for competition”. During these competitions, the girls’ biggest competition is themselves, especially since if they can’t work as a team, then they won’t be able to succeed.
