With winter just around the corner, basketball season isn’t too far behind. The Coginchaug girls basketball team has had great success in previous seasons. Last season, the varsity team went 13-10, led by head coach Mr. Chris Watson. The girls JV coach is CRHS math teacher Megan Kavanaugh, and the freshmen coach is Terese Cerins. Senior captain Larissa Cade said, “Underclassmen will have to step up, but I have faith in them, and I think we’ll be alright.” The underclassmen will have to make up for the loss of four key players: Lena Huntington, Mikayla Wyskiel, Naomi Rinaldo, and Audrey Arcari. Currently, there are three returning seniors on the team: Larissa Cade, Amy Arcari, and Alana Beckert. The girls’ first game will be home on Tuesday, Dec. 15 against Cromwell at 7:00 p.m. “It will be tough at first, but after we find out how we all play together, we will be fine,” senior Alana Beckert said.
