On Tuesday, May 23, the Coginchaug golf team traveled to Stanley Golf Course in New Britain and won the Shoreline Conference Championships for the first time since 2008, defeating Portland, the Division IV defending State Champions.
This year’s members who qualified for Shorelines were senior captain Jack French and sophomores TJ Vallone, EJ Dzialo, Kyle Roberts and Tyler Woodward.
Woodward said it was “shocking and amazing at the same time.” Woodward also made First Team All-Shoreline while senior captain Jack French made Second Team All-Shoreline. Vallone and Dzialo shot their personal bests, and Kyle Roberts rounded out the team with a strong performance.
Dzialo said, “It was our best match of the year by far.”
The team, currently ranked fourth for States, hopes to win the championship this year as they start the tournament on June 5 at Crestbrook Park in Watertown.
