One of this year’s newest additions to the school community is Mrs. Adamaitis, a special education teacher. The Devil’s Advocate was grateful for the opportunity to interview her and get to know her better.
(DA): Where did you teach before coming to Coginchaug, and was there any specific reason you decided to work here?
(KA): I taught for Cromwell Public Schools for 11 years before coming to CRHS. I have heard wonderful things about the school system here at CRHS, and was looking for a new opportunity!
(DA): What motivated you to become a teacher?
(KA): I have always wanted to be a teacher, since I was a little girl. Then, when I was 18 years old, I worked at a daycare with a child who had autism. I loved this little boy! (and he loved me). Everyone I worked with said “I had a special way with him, and was able to connect with him like no one else could.” So, I became very interested in working with students with special needs. I always share that story with people when they ask why I decided to work in special education.
(DA): What are you looking forward to this school year?
(KA): I am looking forward to getting to know all of my new students, and my new colleagues. Making positive relationships with my students and making an impact on their lives. I am looking forward to being a part of a new school system.
(DA): Do you have a favorite sport, either to participate in or watch?
(KA): I grew up playing soccer and ran track, so they’re still my favorite! I love UCONN basketball- men and women, and NFL- Go Cowboys!
(DA): Would you like to share anything about you or your family?
(KA): I am passionate about teaching, and am excited to work for CRHS! I have a daughter, Kinsley, who is 6, and a son, Jaxon, who is 9. We also have a golden retriever named Tallulah.
Coginchaug is lucky to welcome such a dedicated and kind teacher, and can’t wait to see everything she brings to the school!
