Students to Walk Out Against Discrimination
Coginchaug Regional High School students have planned a walkout to protest the recent rise in discrimination throughout Regional School District 13 for April 29th.
In an email made public through LinkTree, the group of students planning the walkout said that, “As students of RSD13, we would like to express our deep concern and disappointment with the current state of our school system. We feel that our school system has become a place unaccepting of diversity and many other identities.”
Attached to the email included a list of discriminatory events throughout the district, with a majority of reports being from the 2021-2022 academic year. The events included multiple occurrences of repeated racism, homophobia, transphobia, antisemitism, anti-Asian, and anti-Islamic sentiment. The events also had a various range of reporting and eventual result, from no action taken to suspension.
The students will walk out on Friday morning (approximately 8:40) and go to the lawn in front of Coginchaug. There, the group will have speakers and demonstrate with various forms of school appropriate expression.
The administration did not have a comment at the time of publication.

Let us all work hard to help RSD13 be a safe place for all peoples. Along with this idea is my firm hope that Calvin Terrill’s talk next week is meet with respect by ALL members of the community.
