PRESS RELEASE: 12th-Annual Community Round-Up

PRESS+RELEASE%3A+12th-Annual+Community+Round-Up
*Sponsored by RSD13 & the Durham & Middlefield Local Wellness Coalition
On Saturday, December 2, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. teams made up of students, teachers, parents and community members will be roving the town in a scavenger like fashion.  Students will travel in teams of three or four following assigned routes to collect non-perishable items, canned goods, donations, and gift cards that will be distributed to the needy.  This community project has been an annual Durham and Middlefield event for the last 11 years and has filled both towns’ food pantries each year.  Additional food items are also delivered to the Amazing Grace Food Pantry in Middletown.  Last year 14,602 food items and over $2,785.00 in cash and gift cards were collected!
Students register in teams with their schools.  Those who prefer to remain at the high school can assist by sorting, counting, & packing.  We also need volunteers to help load the trucks and then unload them at Amazing Grace.  Students must fill out a permission slip from their school to participate as a volunteer.  A sizable number of volunteers are needed to make this day a success.  In keeping with the spirit of the day, items will be counted for a grand total only.  All volunteers will be eligible for raffle prizes and breakfast will be served at 8:30, sponsored by the Durham Women’s Club. Registration will be from 8:30 to 8:45.  All participants and volunteers are welcome.

This cross-age project, co-sponsored by the Local Wellness Coalition, provides an opportunity for students and adults to work together and experience the true spirit of the holiday season.  For further information, please contact Kathy Bottini, Melissa Cook, or Rebecca Sinusas Co-chairs, Strong Guidance Department at 860-349-7255.
