The Coginchaug softball team has been on a roll this season. After coming off a two-game losing streak to North Branford and H-K, the girls came back strong by defeating Morgan and Valley. The Lady Devils are heading into their last week of regular season with a record of 12-3.
With an outstanding team batting average of .370, the team has a lot going for them. Sophomore Izzy Milardo leads the team at .480.
“It feels good to have the highest batting average on the team,” Milardo said. “It has definitely made me more confident as a player.”
As a team, the girls have tallied 149 RBIs, as well as a high on-base percentage of .423.
The Devils, ranked sixth in Class S and third in Shorelines, are looking ahead to the post-season. Sophomore Taylor McDermott says there’s a lot to look forward to: “I’m looking forward to working on my hitting and pitching and taking time to focus on specific pitching mechanics.”
The girls fell to Berlin on May 23, ending the regular season with a record of 15-5. They will face H-K on May 25 for the first round of Shorelines at Coginchaug Regional High School at 3:45 p.m.
