Track Duo Honored by CIAC

PRESS RELEASE FROM CRHS ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT:

Congratulations to Bailey Thayer and Christian Alberico for being recognized as Coginchaug Regional High School’s CIAC Scholar-Athlete Award winners!

The Scholar-Athlete Program annually recognizes two high school seniors, one boy and one girl, from each member high school, whose academic and athletic careers have been exemplary, whose personal standards and achievements are a model to others, and who possess high levels of integrity, self-discipline and courage.

Since its inception, the Annual Connecticut High School Scholar-Athlete Awards Program and Banquet has honored over 4,000 outstanding graduating seniors in Connecticut high schools. It has become the premier annual event in Connecticut’s education community, looked forward to by the member high schools of Connecticut as the opportunity to recognize student excellence in academics, athletics and school and community leadership. Last year over 1,650 people attended the banquet.

Senior Bailey Thayer has demonstrated outstanding academic high school achievements throughout her high school career. These academic achievements have earned her membership to the National Honor Society and the position of President for the Spanish Honor Society. She has participated on the Girls Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track teams all four years here at Coginchaug and was named team captain her Senior year. She has received many awards including the Coaches Award for Indoor Track, Shoreline Scholar Athlete, 2nd Team All-Conference, 1st team All-Conference, and All-State Awards. As a member of the Athletic Leadership Council, Bailey has demonstrated fine leadership skills and her commitment and many hours of community service has been evident throughout all four of her high school years. She was also a team member of the 2014 Girls Cross Country Shoreline Championship and State Championship teams and earned many varsity letters during her Coginchaug athletic career.

Christian Alberico, also a senior, has been a three-season athlete all four years here at Coginchaug Regional High School. Boys Cross Country, Indoor Track and Outdoor Track being his main focus, he has won many prestigious awards. His Cross Country accomplishments include being named 1st Team All-Conference, Conference Champion, Class S State Champion, Class SS State Champion, a 2014 New England Qualifier, a 2014 National Qualifier and a repeat varsity letter winner. As a member of the French Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and National Honor Society, Christian has proved to be an outstanding academic student throughout his four years here at Coginchaug. He is a member of the Athletic Leadership Council and has served numerous community service hours for the school district and the town of Durham.

The banquet to recognize Bailey and Christian will take place on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 4:30 p.m., at the Aqua Turf Club in Southington, Connecticut.
