So far Coginchaug boys basketball is off to a good start being 5-4. Their leading scorer so far is Jack Murphy, the starting center, number 34.

During the offseason, he prepares by participating in an AAU league run by Choate Rosemary Hall. He also participates in a fall/spring league supported by Coginchaug. On top of that he gets plenty of practice hours at his house where he has the luxury of having his own outdoor basketball court.

Although he doesn’t have many pregame rituals that he follows, he always listens to “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell because, “It always gets me ready for a big game,” he said.

When asked about how he thinks the team is going to do this season, he said, “The team is looking good, but we need to work on our chemistry; the odds are with us, however, as we are ranked as number six in the Shoreline Conference.”
