CRHS Girls Soccer Team Kicks of Their 2020 Season!
The Coginchaug girls soccer team started their delayed season with a 12-0 win against Westbrook Friday October 2nd.
The girls had strong defense, which led to multiple opportunities for them to score. They also excelled at keeping the ball on offensive and pushed the ball up the field very well.
The season started very late, and the team was not able to practice together until recently. Due to the Coronavirus, the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) has shortened the season to five weeks with 11 games being played, and the team will only play shoreline teams. Coginchaug’s athletic programs has also made a YouTube channel where they will be live streaming all sporting events once they get to 1000 subscribers.
Senior captain Noelle Sorensen is excited for the start of this season because this past summer there was a chance of no fall sports. She says, “The fact that we’re now training, preparing for a game, and creating a lineup is crazy in itself.”
With the new guidelines from the CIAC, the team is still very cautious and makes sure to distance themselves during team talks and water breaks. Junior starter, Alyssa Woodward says that due to the Coronavirus the team enters and exits practice with a mask on and is required to log their health daily before each practice or game.
Alyssa Woodward also says, there is a lot to look forward to this year with a “strong and super athletic” team. With just about the same starting lineup as last year, Sophomore starter Katie Farr says, “This may be the year where we can make it to the championship.
